Useful Art was born out of my varied interests and intense need to create! If I am not creating, then I am slowly dying, burning out. I choose Useful Art as I desired an umbrella company to cover all of these somewhat related interests--graphic design, quilting, and healing (reiki, quilts & crystals). My talents and expertise lie far outside the realm of business finance so I needed to keep things simple--like one company.

So I decided to name this company Useful Art because what I do does require artistic endeavor. For years I fought the term "artist," believing that was a label for someone far more talented than I. Then I realized, "Hey, not everyone can do what I do. Doesn't that qualify me as an artist." So I tried on the term and it became more comfortable.

Now "art" is in my company name to remind me and the rest of the world that what I do is more than just manipulating computer files or fabric. And I added "useful" because what I do is useable--it has a specific purpose.

It isn't just for the beauty of it. It is applicable to and affects daily life. If I create a wonderful logo, the company may be more readily recognized. They build brand recognition and become more successful. Or, I may create a healing quilt that is hung in home where negativity is feeding into the dysfunctional dynamics and, by the quilt's presence, the atmosphere in the home may began to turn towards the positive.

This is Useful Art.

Finally, the logo for Useful Art is a stalk of wheat. Wheat is an ancient symbol of fertility--fertile ideas to help people heal and businesses grow!
